24/3/1821: Hobart Town Gazette: Joseph Bagot and Israel Allen were arraigned on a capital charge of breaking and entering, in the day-time, the dwelling-house of George Steele, on the 1stFeb. last, and stealing various articles therein, to the value of £15 and upwards. - Allen pleaded Guilty; and Bagot was found so on the most unequivocal evidence. - The Court, in humane consideration, adjudged the prisoners to be transported to Newcastle for the respective terms of their natural lives. Colonial Secretary Papers NSW: ALLEN, Israel. Per “Lady Castlereagh”, 1818. 28,30/4/1821: Prisoner arrived from Hobart per “Medway” under sentence of transportation to Newcastle; to be held in Sydney Gaol. 24/5/1821: On list of prisoners transported to Newcastle per “Snapper”. 2712/1821: On list of prisoners at Newcastle under sentence from the Criminal Court in Van Diemen’s Land. May 1822: On monthly return of prisoners punished at Newcastle. 26/9/1823: On list of convicts removed from Newcastle to Port Macquarie per “Sally”. 15/7/1826 Sydney Gazette: George Farrell, Edward Murphy, and Israel Allen, all prisoners of the crown, charged with having robbed Peter Carroll, also a prisoner of the crown, of some dollar notes and some silver; it appeared that Carroll, after having been drinking with one of the prisoners, Allen, and a man named Bacon, that when they were proceeding to the Prisoners' Barrack, at the upper end of George-street, Carroll was pushed down from behind, by some person who held his handover his eyes, whilst some men, who were lying on the ground, rifled his pockets of the contents; all sentenced to work in irons for 3 months each. Convicts at Moreton Bay: 25/1/1827 Sydney General Sessions: found secreted on board a vessel with intent to escape the Colony – 18 months – sent to Moreton Bay and was returned to Sydney 25/8/1828. He was then described as: age 23?? (which would make him born 1804 and only 13 when transported), 5’8 ½”tall, sallow complexion, dark brown hair, grey eyes. His occupation was listed as a “Cooper/Gardener”. Nothing else found after 1828.




Committed crime of stealing money at age of 13 on 15-7-1817. Sentenced to hang. Aug 1817. Reprieve. Transported with Thomas Densley (accomplice) to Van Dieman's Land. Dec 22nd 1817
