Listed as Stephen Bell ALIAS John McCabe on arrival in WA. Stephen Bell was 19 years old when transported for 'Stealing a brace of pistols'. Stephen was single, 5'3" tall, dark brown hair, hazel eyes, round face, fresh complexion, stout bild, scar right eyebrow. 29/3/1856: TOL 12/4/1869: COF 17/7/1876: Stephen died at Toodyay, WA. Listed on the WA BDM as Stephen Bell, aged 42.




In 1894, John McCabe was convicted of blowing up the Catholic Presbytery in York, Western Australia and the attempted murder of Father Gibney. He was seeking revenge because Father Gibney had permitted Nora Cronin to enter the Mercy order, thereby avoiding marrying McCabe.
