William Benn was said to be 20 years old on arrival – date of birth given as 1814 – although on his death records his date of birth is given as 1826. William was 5’5 11/4” tall, brown hair, dark grey eyes, single, dark complexion. Conduct record: Mostly drunk. No marriage or children found. 15/12/1843: TOL 17/3/1846: Recommended for a CP 21/9/1847: CP approved. 25/9/1876 The Mercury, Hobart: Hospital Cases. William Benn, aged 50 years, was also admitted from Green Ponds. He states that he was sitting by the fire at 3 o'clock yesterday morning when his jumper caught fire. He was severely burned on the chest, the neck, back, and left hand. He remains in the institution. 15/11/1876: William died from ‘ambustio’ (burns or blisters) aged 50 at Greenponds and was buried on 18/11/1876 at the Cornelian Bay Cemetery, Paupers Section.
