James Baulch was born 23 Jan 1829 in Fremington, Devon, England, s/o James Baulch + Elizabeth Ashton. All were living in Glamorgan Wales when on October 17, 1848 James was sentenced to 1 month for the crime of larceny. On February 27, 1849 in Glamorgan once again, he was sentenced to 10 years / Transportation for "burglary before convicted of felony" Married Margaret John Sept 12, 1864 in Glamorgan, Tasmania.

Was killed by a large rock of quartz falling on his head while in the mine. Left a young wife (she may have been expecting a child at this time) and young children behind.
