FRIENDS OF THE ORPHAN SCHOOLS Orphan Number: 398 Orphan: Frances BOTTOM Mother: BOTTOM, Catherine Father: , Mother's ship: Arab Father's ship: Age when admitted: 3yrs Date admitted: 27 Jul 1840 Date discharged: 5 Dec 1845 Institution(s): Queens Orphan School Discharged to: mother, now free Remarks: married Benjamin Smith, Bothwell References: SWD7, 28 his orphan has been claimed by: Jennie Chapman Frances, born in 1835, was the daughter of Catherine Bottom. She married Benjamin Smith in Hobart in 1862 and they settled in Benjamin's home town of Bothwell. In 1870, the family packed up and moved to Goulds Country becoming one of the pioneer families in the district. Frances died in 1903 in Ross from cancer.
