On arrival in NSW William Bowes was listed as 24 years old. Native Place: Yorkshire. Occupation: Farmer's man/Ploughman. William was literate, married, no children, 5'8¾" tall, ruddy and freckled complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, makrs of innoculation on both arms, large scar round right leg - made by irons, long blue scar underneath right eye, tattoos. Assigned to Eden & Spark, Hunters River. 5/4/1848: Arrived VDL per Governor Phillip. 1849: Employed by Lawrence Costine. From his Conduct Record VDL: 24/3/1829: 2 years at Moreton Bay for Absentee and in riot - General Sessions at Newcastle - Returned 15/10/1831. Listed as BOWERS at Moreton Bay. 3/2/1834: 23 month Irons for absconding/\ 29/6/1835: Ditto 19/3/1836: 12 months in irons for abduction. 17/7/1838: 12 months in irons for repeatedly absconding. 7/8/1839: 12 months in irons for Pilfering 14/6/1844: 2 years in irons for repeatedly absconding. 13/5/1846: 6 months in irons for absconding. 12/1/1848: 3 years in irons for Larceny at Maitland. 11/8/1853: at Port Arthur. 30/9/1853: Returned to Sydney per 'Emma'.
