John Bowles was 16 years old when convicted of stealing a watch, value 30 shillings. Old Bailey: JOHN BOWLES, Theft > simple larceny, 5th July 1832. Reference Number: t18320705-247 Offence: Theft > simple larceny Verdict: Guilty Punishment: Transportation JOHN BOWLES was indicted for stealing, on the 23rd of June , 1 watch, value 30s. , the goods of Benjamin Holley . BENJAMIN HOLLEY . I am a sweep . The prisoner was employed by me on the 23rd of June; I left him in bed, and my watch was in my bed-room; when I returned it was gone - I found him on the Brentford road; he was secured. JAMES ALDOUS . I am a pawnbroker, and live in Berwick-street, Soho. I received this watch from the prisoner on the 23rd of June, in the name of John Bowles . HUGH SANDILAND (Police-constable T 80). I took the prisoner, and found the duplicate on him. GUILTY . Aged 16. - Transported for Seven Years . John was at that time 4’10 ¾” tall, Brown hair, hazel eyes, 4 small moles on left cheek, small mole on chest, nose sharp and inclined to the left. John John was born in Manchester, Lancashire. Father: John Bouls and mother Dinah ???. 20/8/1839: COF September 1841: married Charlotte Tindall at Windsor, NSW – they had 4 sons and 7 daughters. 1/6/1890: Charlotte died at Nyngan, NSW. 22/9/1893: John died at Bourke, NSW.
