Tyrone Assizes, Omagh, March 23.? James Breen, for robbing James Birnie of bank notes, the amount of ? On 18th December last. James Birnie—Lives in Gortmore; was at the fair of Fivemiletown 18th Dec. last, selling cattle ; left the fair between seven and eight o’clock that evening coming to the two roads, on his way home, took the new road ; James Breen, together with a comrade, met him on that road ; prisoner said it was a piercing night, and Shouldered him for perches; offered to button his outside coat; thinks with the pretext of getting his waistcoat pocket; them came up close to each side of him, and while (the witness) had his hand in his pocket, taking out his handkerchief, the other held his hand in it, Breen put his hand in his waistcoat pocket, look out the notes, and ran off with them; they were loose in his pocket; three of them were £1 notes, and the other prisoner was bred in his neighbourhood ; knew him well; called out that they had robbed him, when prisoner ordered him to hold his tongue, or it would worse for him, and he desisted  from fear. Nothing material being elicited by the witness’s cross-examination, the prisoner was found Guilty. Londonderry Sentinel, 27 Mar 1830.
