Denis Brennan was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Convict Notes




The Convict Indentures state that Denis Brennan was 13 years old. He could neither read nor write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Limerick. He was an errand boy. Denis was convicted of picking pockets in Limerick City on 6 October 1835 and sentenced to 7 years. He had one prior conviction and served three weeks. Physical attributes: Height 4 feet 4 1/2 inches; complexion dark and freckled; hair dark brown and eyes dark grey. Transport number 132. Prisoner number 36-1935. 1837 NSW General Muster records Denis Brennan twice once in the employment of the Government of Sydney and secondly in the employment of N. G. Bow..man in Sydney. Ink has faded so difficult to read. 1856 Goulburn Goal Delivery and entrance Book states the Denis Brennan, Waterloo, arriving in 1836, a native of Limerick, religion Roman Catholic, trade brick maker was charged on 7 November 1856 for vagrancy and sentenced. He was discharged on 7 February 1857. Number 128. Standing number 1433. He had a ticket of leave.
