Henry married Marion Martin on 27 September, 1847 at Bethesda, Tasmania, Australia. They had 5 children, Henry (1846-1897), Arthur George(1855-1932), Eliza Jane (1856-1858), Albert Reynolds (1861-1941)and Ada Elizabeth (1863-). His parents were Benjamin Brett and Jane Matthews of Lambeth, Surrey, England. He was one of 3 children. The others were Mary Ann Brett and Eliza Brett.
