The Assizes for the county of Devon commenced at the Castle of this city, on Monday last, … The following prisoners have already been tried and found guilty, viz.: Michael Brown and William Clark, for assaulting Wm. Gould on the highway, and stealing from him a pocket-book, containing 15 one-pound notes, a watch, &c.; … were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death. Exeter Flying Post, 21 Mar 1816.
