John Browne was convicted of Highway Robbert at Carlow, Ireland in July 1817 and was given a Life Sentence. He was transported on the 'Minerva' departing 22/12/1817, arriving Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) on 07/06/1818. Convict no. 8037. Aged 42 yrs. Colonial Offences: 15/10/1821: Drunk & disorderly - Reprimanded & discharged. 04/05/1824: Refuse to obey the Magistrate - to forfeit Ticket of Leave and returned to Port Arthur penal settlement. 06/08/1830: Absent from quarterly Muster - admonished. 08/08/1831: Married Mary Lynch (convict per 'Morley'). Ref. 1745/1831-36. Sorell district. Under surname 'Brown' (no 'e'). 21/08/1832: Conditional Pardon no. 403. Hobart Town Gazette has a Conditional Pardon granted on 14/07/1834 and a Free Pardon 21/01/1835 (but these are not recorded in Conduct Record Book).
