DON BOWES on 14th May, 2015 wrote:
After his return to York wrote and published the short (20 pages or so) book “Life of John Broxup: Late Convict at van Diemen’s Land” a revealing and often gruesome account of his life from his education from the age of 9 in the York Blue Coat School, then as an apprentice, then for a number of years as a soldier, then as a labourer before his conviction and transportation, then as a convict. The book, written after his return to York, ends with moralistic and cautionary words to others who might be in danger of taking a path to the misery he suffered.
