Colonial Secretary's Office, Sydney, May 5th, 1835. The Tickets of Leave granted to the following Prisoners have been cancelled for the reasons set against their respective names viz :— Guildford (6)—John Bugden, neglect of muster and absence from District. NSW Govt Gazette, 6 May 1835.




John Bugden was 24 years old on arrival. Native Place: Farley, Wiltshire. John was 5'7½" tall, blue eyes, brown hair, very well. Occupation: Groom and ploughman. 1820: John Bugden married his first wife Elizabeth Lockyear in Wiltshire. Assigned to William Kearnes, Pitt Street, Sydney. 1831: TOL, Goulburn Plains. 11/6/1834: Permission to marry Henen Jaffray alias Helen McCarroll (Earl of Liverpool) at Parramatta. John is listed as 34 with a TOL - Helen on bond. No Registration found. 31/8/1837: Permission to marry Margaret Roach (came free) at Maitland - John is listed as 31 and free. 14/9/1837: Married Margaret Roach at Derbie; Hunter District; Maitland; Morpeth; Paterson; Singleton. Children: John Bernard 1836-7/7/1911 Helen 1841-1916 Margaret 1842-1918 Robert 29/12/1843-1/5/1919 Patrick 14/4/1845-12/6/1912 Michael 11/7/1847-1929 Marian 1848 Bridget 1849 1867: Bailliere's Post Office Directory: John Snr. and John Jnr. both Farmers at Brookfield in the County of Durham. 6/5/1876: John Bugden died at Pelican Street, Codrington, NSW., aged 77. Margaret Roach 1808-1867, Margaret died at Lismore, aged 59.
