1824. The Memorial of Catherine Clarke most Respectfully sheweth That your Excellency’s Memorialist is free by Servitude, that she is married and has an infant family of three children to support from the produce of a rented farm which she occupies in the district of Evan, that after Memorialist and her husbands most laborious exertions in the pursuits of honest industry, she finds it barely adequate to a mere subsistence, that Memorialist’s husband being a prisoner, is consequently disqualified from holding or applying for land from Government and as Memorialist is very desirous of making some future provision for her family, by obtaining a Farm from Govt. Through yr. Excellency’ goodness, she most humbly presents herself as a suppliant praying for that indulgence. Memorialist therefore most respectfully solicits Your Excellency to be graciously pleased to give Memorialist a Grant of Land and Memorialist as in duty bound will ever pray, Signed, Catherine Clarke. Signed, Henry Fulton, Clergyman. And one other signature ? Rec. Magistrate.

Irish Convict Database, by Peter Mayberry. Michael Burke, alias Bourke, age on arrival, 26, per Mariner (1) 1816. Tried, 1815 at Kent QS. Canterbury, England, Life. DOB, 1790, Native place, Limerick Co. Single. Soldier labourer. --------------------------------------------------------------- Canterbury.—At an Adjourned Session of the Peace, held on held on Monday, Nicholas Notan and Michael Burk, soldiers in the 86th regiment, were found guilty of robbing a poor French fisherman of 9£. in silver, being the price of a cargo of walnuts which he had sold in Canterbury in January last. The prisoner Nolan had volunteered his services as interpreter to the poor Frenchman, which made his crime more heinous. He and five other soldiers perpetrated the robbery a short distance from Canterbury, by surrounding the prosecutor and drawing their bayonets. The prisoners were sentenced to be executed on the 25th of September next. Windsor and Eton Express, 27 Aug 1815. CANTERBURY, Nov. 17. On Tuesday the Sheriff of this city received the warrant from the Secretary of State for the execution of Nicholas Nolan, under sentence of death in Westgate gaol, for a highway robbery; the execution is to take place on Friday, the first day of December next. Michael Burke, who was convicted of the same offence, and who also received sentence of death, has been reprieved, and is to be transported for life.—The prisoners, who are of the Roman Catholic persuasion, have been attended with zealous humanity, by the Rev. Mr, Croshie, who has administered for some tune past the consolations religion to the unhappy criminals. Kentish Weekly Post, 17 Nov 1815.
