Edward Burnham was transported on the Royal Admiral, departing 28th Feb 1800 and arriving 20th Nov 1800 with 305 passengers.
The Royal Admiral was built at Lynn in 1828. Convicts were transported to New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in 1830, 1833, 1835 and to Van Diemen's Land in 1842. 1833 - Ship; Royal Admiral. Commenced fitting as a Convict Transport at Deptford on the 29 March. Surgeon Superintendent [Andrew Henderson] joined on the 3rd April. Guard embarked on the 13th. Sailed on the 17th and anchored in Kingston Barbour near Dublin on the 9th May. 220 convicts embarked on the 16 May 1833 and the ship sailed from Dublin Bay for Sydney on the 4th June and arrived there on the 20 October. Originally embarked with 221 convicts, 5 Died at sea, 1 was Relanded. 11 sick on shore, The convicts were described as 220 such wretchedly debilitated creatures ... Family connections for Edward (Burnham) are: BURNHAM Edward (Burnham) was born about 1775/80. He married firstly (1of3) Ann (Cordon) on 14 12 1791 at Crendon Buckinghamshire. As Thomas (Haley) he married secondly (2of3) Jane (Laurence) at St Giles in the Fields London. He was tried for Bigamy probaby at Old Bailey, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict on 20 11 1800 after a voyage of 9months on ROYAL ADMIRAL; he was Protestant. He was at Seven Hills on 16 1 1816 when he was to receive a grant of land. He was Free by Servitude by 1819. He married thirdly Mary (Shewring/Sheering/Shearing) on 15 1/11 1821 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. He was issued his Certificate of Freedom no.235/1518. He is recorded in 1822-5 as landholder Parramatta with his wife. He was issued replacement Certificate of Freedom 28/4247 on 8 9 1825. He was 5'7.5" sallow complexion black to grey hair hazel eyes. He is recorded in 1828 as settler on 50acres at Prospect with his family. He died in 1835 age about60 & was buried on 11 11 1835 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. She was tried w/her husband & 1other for stealing, on 27 11 1807, a box of clothes from Jeffrey (Hart) & Ellis (Bent) at Old Bailey perhaps on 13 11 1808, sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived in NSW as a convict with her children on 20 12 1808 after a voyage of 6months on AEOLUS-accompanying ADMIRAL GAMBIER. She is recorded in the colony in 1811 & 1814 as on stores with 2children on stores & 1child off stores. She as Mary (Sherring) was Free by Servitude by 1819. She is recorded in 1822-5 at Parramatta with her husband. She is recorded in 1828 at Prospect with her family. She died in 1838 age56 mother of 5children & was buried on 26 6 1838 at St Johns CofE Parramatta. EDWARD BURNHAM , alias THOMAS HALEY was indicted, for that he, on the 14th of December, 1791, by the name of Edward Burnham , did take to wife Ann Cordon , spinster , and afterwards, that is to say, on the 21st of January last, by the name of Thomas Haley , feloniously did take to wife, Jane Lawrence , spinster, his former wife being alive . RICHARD SHRIMPTON sworn. - Examined by Mr. Vaillant. I am parish clerk of Long Crendon, in Buckinghamshire. (Produces the register-book of 1791; it is read). 'Edward Burnham, in the parish of Crendon,'Bucks, and Ann Cordon, were married at this'church, by licence, this 14th day of December,'in the year 1791; by me C. Klpling, minister;'this marriage was solemnized between us, Edward'Burnham, his mark; Ann Cordon , her mark, in'the presence of Charles Spencer , John Dodwell .' Q. Do you know the prisoner at the bar? - A. Yes, that is the man; I was present at the marriage, his wife has left Crendon about five months; I saw her two or three times, about three days before she went away. WILLIAM ASHFIELD sworn. - Examined by Mr. Vaillant. I am the parish-clerk of St. Giles's in the Fields, (produces the register book of marriages); reads, "21st of January, 1799, Thomas Haley , of this parish, batchelor, to Jane Lawrence of this parish, spinster." Q. Were you present at the marriage? - A. I cannot say, positively, whether I was or not. JANE LAWRENCE sworn. - Examined by Mr. Vaillant. Q. Do you know the prisoner at the bar? - A. Yes; I was married to him about twelve months ago, at St. Giles's church, in the name of Thomas Haley . Prisoner's defence. The parish forced me to marry her, they took me up. GUILTY . (Aged 27.) Transported for seven years . Tried by the second Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Baron HOTHAM.




Edward married Mary Sherring (per Aeolus 1809)on 15/01/1821 at Parramatta. Edward was a farmer on 50 acres at Prospect. He is buried at St. John's cemetery, Parramatta.
