Old Bailey Proceedings Online (www.oldbaileyonline.org, version 8.0, 18 July 2020), December 1829, trial of JOHN CANEW (t18291203-115). JOHN CANEW, Theft > simple larceny, 3rd December 1829. 114. JOHN CANEW was indicted for stealing, on the 21st of November , 2 boots, value 2s. , the goods of George Dupin . HENRY JENKINS. I am in the employ of Mr. George Dupin, shoemaker , Shadwell High-street . On the 21st of November, a woman came and said a boy had taken a pair of shoes - I went out, and saw the prisoner running; I took him about fifty yards from the shop, and took the boots from him - these are them; I had seen them safe an hour before. WILLIAM BURN. I am an officer, and took the prisoner. GUILTY . Aged 15. - Transported for Seven Years .
