Pierce Cantwill and Pierre Grace are one and same person - two records in Archives. Cantwill was found guilty of killing sheep at Queens, Ireland, 15/03/1844 and given a 15 yr sentence. Transported on the 'Cadet', arriving Van Diemens Land 24/08/1844. Married man - wife Catherine and 3 children. 5'6"; Roman Catholic; can read a little; farm labourer/ploughman; sallow complexion; brown hair; blue eyes; Native Place Co. Kilkenny. Surgeon's Report: Good. Gaol Report: well conducted. Colonial Records: Station Gang: Seven Mile Creek. Emerged 24/05/1846. 07/06/1846: To be removed from Hobart Town. 24/09/1846: New Norfolk - Absent from Muster - 7 days hard labour, in chains. 31/05/1847: Richmond - misconduct in falsely accusing L. Sergeant with sheep stealing - 6 weeks imprisonment with hard labour. 1848: Fingal Muster. 14/03/1851: Hobart - Abscond - discharged and returned to service, not being under proper control. 30/09/1851: Drunk and misconduct in assault Constable in execution of his duty - 6mths imprisonment, hard labour. 28/02/1852: Misconduct in creating alarm and disturbance - admonished. 28/11/1852: Ticket of Leave granted. 19/12/1854: Conditional Pardon NOTE IN CONDUCT RECORD: later reconvicted as Pierre GRACE. Colonial Family listed for Pierce GRACE and wife Catherine Whelen - married 1853 Hobart, with sons John & Peter. Same family? No request for permission to marry under Cantwill or Grace.
