11/1/1837 Derby Mercury Derbyshire, England: DERBY EPIPHANY SESSIONS John Booth, aged 18, and Richard Carpenter, aged 16, charged with stealing in the parish of St. Alkmund, two calico shirts and one cotton bed tick, the property of Wm. Mayer ; also charged with stealing in the parish of All Saints, two calico shirts, the property of Sarah Tabberer. Guilty__John Booth, to be transported for 14 years ; and Richard Carpenter, to be transported for 7 years. John Booth arrived VDL per 'Elphinstone' 1837. Richard Carpenter was listed as 17 years old on arrival. Native Place: London Richard was illiterate, protestant, single, 5'2¾" TALL, dark and freckled complexion, dark brown hair, brown eyes, 1837, sun, MC, anchor, heart surrounded by two roses, man, R.C. woman, WCT, deven dots, C, fish, J.C. lower right arm, man with flag in hand, man, fun, dog, bird, G.L. cottage, F.W.J.B, lower left arm. Assigned to Parry Long in Sydney. 10/1/1844: COF 1845: Married Jean Sewell at Newcastle. (Jean Wittle married Joseph Sewell (Lady Harewood 1832) on 3/5/1840 at Newcastle, he was 33 and had a TOL - Jean was 18 and on bond.) Joseph Sewell died 1844, listed as 34 on the NSW BDM.
