Daniel Carr was transported on the Lady Kennaway, departing 2nd Jun 1836 and arriving 12th Oct 1836 with 302 passengers.
The 'Lady Kennaway' was built in Calcutta in 1817. A large ship of 584 tons. Transported convicted prisoners to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) in 1834, via Cork, Ireland. Convict Notes




Daniel spent a short time at Hyde Park Barracks before being assigned to Broughton at Burrowa (now spelt Boorowa). He worked as a farm hand having been experienced with farming back home in Potterspury UK. He married & had four children. He was the Poundkeeper at Burrowa before taking up a station managers position at East Bland Station which was the outback at the time in the early 1850’s. It was there that he died from consumption after the flood of 1852. He is buried there. There is no record of his death.




Daniel Carr was my paternal great great grandfather. The second christian name of Gunning was added (recorded on birth of his fourth child in 1850) probably to distinguish from another Daniel Carr.

He stole some grain and was tried at Buckingham (Borough) Quarter Sessions Buckinghamshire 5th January 1836, Sentenced 7 years, Transported to Australia on "Lady Kennaway" (583 tons), Arrived 12 October 1836. Certificate of Freedom dated 12 Feb 1844. Children: Daniel (22 Oct 1849 - 7 Feb 1909) Thomas (1845 - 1925) Fanny (b.1847) John (1851 - 1926)
