1820, 9 January: Committed by the Government/admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin; listed as "A convict from the County Monaghan". 1820, 15 April: He was "sent on board the convict ship" for transportation (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin Kilmainham 1815-1910).

Hugh Carroll was listed as 40 years old on arrival. Native Place: Monaghan county. Hugh was 5'8" tall, dark ruddy complexion, black hair, blue eyes. 1823-25: Government servant assigned to William Dun. Colonial Secretary Index: CARROLL, Hugh. Per "Dorothy", 1820 1825 Jan 8: On monthly statement of changes in the convicts at Rooty Hill Station; from Lieutenant Bell's clearing party (Reel 6028; 2/8283 p.271) 1825 Jul 15: On monthly statement of changes in the convicts at Rooty Hill Station; to Prisoners Barracks, Sydney (Reel 6028; 2/8283 p.283) 6/8/1827: COF 1828 Census: Pitt Town: Age 45. Free by servitude. Labourer employed by John Grono at Pitt Town. 1855: Possible death - NSW BDM - aged 65, no district given. 20/10/1855 The People's Advocate, Sydney: Sudden Death. — An inquest was held on Friday last, before Sir. J Brennan, at Chippendale, touching the death of an old man named Hugh Carroll. It appears that about 8 o'clock on the previous morning he suddenly fell down apparently very ill. He subsequently recovered but complained of pain in his head : He went home and died about four o'clock that evening. Verdict — Died from natural causes.
