1820, 9 January: Committed by the Government/admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin; listed as "A convict from the County Monaghan". 1820, 15 April: He was "sent on board the convict ship" for transportation (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin Kilmainham 1815-1910).




Hugh Carroll was listed as 40 years old on arrival. Native Place: Monaghan county. Free by servitude. Labourer employed by John Grono at Pitt Town. 1855: Possible death - NSW BDM - aged 65, no district given. 20/10/1855 The People's Advocate, Sydney: Sudden Death. — An inquest was held on Friday last, before Sir. J Brennan, at Chippendale, touching the death of an old man named Hugh Carroll. It appears that about 8 o'clock on the previous morning he suddenly fell down apparently very ill. He subsequently recovered but complained of pain in his head : He went home and died about four o'clock that evening. Verdict — Died from natural causes.
