Convict Notes

A Coroner's inquest assembled on Thursday evening last, at the Fox and Hounds, Castlereagh street, on a prisoner of the crown named Roger Cassidy, who died the same day in the General Hospital, from a wound he had himself inflicted some days previous, by cutting his throat and severing in a dreadful manner the windpipe. Upon his being interrogated while in the General Hospital, he avowed the rash act, and added that he had thrown away the knife with which he perpetrated it, in the bush. Verdict, "destroyed himself by cutting his throat in a moment of aberration of mind." Sydney Gazette, Tues 29 Dec 1829. He died Thursday 24 December 1829.
