18/2/1848 Leicester Journal Leicestershire, England: LOCAL INTELLIGENCE On Tuesday, William Castings was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, for stealing a till from the Angel Spirit Vaults. 6/5/1848 Leicestershire Mercury Leicestershire, England: Local Intelligence Monday. William Castings and Thomas Savage were charged with stealing 1lb. of butter, the property of Mrs. Barlow, Belgrave-gate. Castings was sent to the County prison to hard labour for month, and Savage discharged. 10/6/1848 Leicestershire Mercury Leicestershire, England: Local Intelligence Alfred Levitt and William Castings were committed to the Sessions for stealing a pair of boots, the property of James Cain, Church-gate. 10/12/1848 Leicestershire Mercury Leicestershire, England: PRISON DISCIPLINE:—THE BOROUGH GAOL County committals. Howcutt, George (13), sent for six weeks to the County; afterwards to the Borough ; then transported. Castings, William (14), sent for one month to the County; again, one month to the County ; twice since to the Borough ; and, finally, transported. William spent three and a half years with the 'Parkhurst Boys' on the Isle of Wight and was then transported to VDL. William was listed as 19 years old on arrival. Occupation: Tailor imperfect. Native Place: Leicester. Father: Henry, a wood turner. Mother: Jane Pratt (1816-1895) Arrived as a convict (Jane Castings) on the 'Sea Queen' 1846. Brother: Hiram Sisters: Sarah, Emma, - at Native Place. William was single, reads and writes a little, C of E, 5'4" tall, fair complexion, light hair, hazel eyes. 26/12/1854: Absconded 30/7/1855: Certificate - himself. No further mentions or date of death found.
