New South Wales, Australia, Convict Indents, 1788-1842 Name: Martha Chamberlain Age: 21. Estimated Birth Year: abt 1774 Date of conviction: 1 Jan 1795 - Middlesex ---------------------------

A Martha Chamberlain, daughter of William and Mary, was indeed born on November 6 1776 and baptised on December 8 at St. Benet Paul's Wharf in London, but another Martha was born to William and Mary on October 13 and baptised on November 12 1780 at the same church. The first Martha must have died, and sure enough there is the record of the burial of Martha Chamberlain 'an Infant' at the same church on May 18 1777. The second one seems too young to have been described as 21 at the time of her trial in 1795.
