WARWICK ASSIZES.—These assizes terminated on Wednesday; when the following prisoners were tried, and sentenced as under:— ... John Chapman, for stealing a silver watch and gold key, the property of Mr. John Carpenter, of this town, to be transported for life. Aris’s Birmingham Gazette, 15 Aug 1814.

Listed as a gunsmith Tas archives aariving on the Kangaroo. August 10th 1816 listed Hobart Town Gazette as being with bush rangers Matthew Keegan gang which includes George Watts and Thomas Garland and John parker They write a letter to Governor Davey saying they are well aware there are parties seeking them and that the list of items they stole is incorrect. The gazette report He is dead by March 2 1817

John Chapman was on a list of 40 male convicts embarked on the Brig Kangaroo for the Derwent, 13th April 1816. No.7, John Chapman, Baring, convicted at Warwick Ass. 6 Aug 1814, sentence-Life. Trade - gun finisher (? writing very faint). https://stors.tas.gov.au/CON13-1-1$init=CON13-1-1p56 Col. Sec. Index CHAPMAN, John. Per "Baring", 1815 1815 Sep 15 - On list of convicts disembarked from the "Baring" and forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6004; 4/3494 p.177)
