Richard Chempkins was tried and convicted at camp court martial near Deisa on 09/12/1846. 14 yr sentence. Transported to Van Diemens Land on the 'Salween' arriving 1848. Previous: Insolent and insubordination. Ct. Martial for firing my piece through my hand. 4mths. Absent - 100 lashes. Native Place: Edmonton Single man; Protestant; not literate; labourer/soldier; 5'6 1/2"; 23yrs of age; sallow complexion; brown hair; Hazel eyes; lost forefinger left hand. Van Diemens Land: Station Gang: Darlington, Maria Island (off east coast). 9mths. 1848/49: Launceston 1849: J. Archer, Middle Plains 1849: Collins, Westbury 1850: G, Westbury.
