(text in full) - A few days since John Childers [sic] a settler residing about two miles from here, met with an accident which it is feared will terminate fatally. He had been delivering hay to one of the innkeepers here, and had left for home early in the afternoon, sitting on his dray. He had not, however, proceeded as far as the boundary of the township until from some cause I have not heard fully explained, he lost his balance and fell heavily to the ground. Fortunately for the poor man, a woman who chanced to be on the spot had sufficient presence of mind to seize the horse by the head just in time to prevent the dray wheel passing over his neck. Assistance was immediately procured and the suffering man conveyed home in a perfect helpless state. He is attended by Dr Oldham who I understand holds out no hope of recovery, the spine being seriously injured. Collector Correspondent of Golden Age. Goulburn Herald (NSW) 6 Jun 1863, p.2, col.6.
