Catherine Christie was transported on the Margaret, departing 1st Sep 1838 and arriving 5th Jan 1839 with 170 passengers.
Built 1829 at Chepstow. 365 tons. Female prisoners were transported to New South Wales on the 'Margaret' in 1837, 1839 and 1840. The 'Margaret' was the last convict ship to transport female prisoners to New South Wales. Another voyage to Van Diemen's Land in 1843. The 1840 sailing also carried 17 free female passengers and one male. The registers of persons is not yet complete on this web site, so please note this if researching. (A work in progress.)

The above entry was incorrectly entered. The Convict Indentures state that Catherine Christie state that she was 40 years old. She could neither read or write; religion Protestant; status single and a native of Jamaica. She was a Laundress. Catherine was convicted of stealing fowls at Mayo on 12 April 1838 and sentenced for 7 years. She had one prior conviction and served six months. Physical attributes: Height 5 feet 1 inches; complexion dark sallow and freckled; hair brown and eyes grey. Transport number 90. Prisoner number 89-39.




The Convict Indentures state that Anne Campbell state that she is 39 years old. She could read; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of County Tyrone. She was a country servant. Anne was convicted of stealing turkeys at Armagh in March 1838 and sentenced for 7 years. She had one prior conviction and served three months. Physical attributes: Height 4 feet 11 1/4 inches; complexion ruddy freckled and pock pitted; hair dark brown and eyes grey. Transport number 90. Prisoner number 89-39. Received Certificate of Freedom in 1845 (number 45/454).
