James Claridge was listed as 28 years old on arrival. Place of Birth: Near Whitney. Transported for 'Deer stealing'. Tried with his brother John Claridge who was also on board the Eden. Goal Report: character & bad belongs to a gan of Deer Stealers. James was single, 5'5¾" tall, dark complexion, light brown hair, reddish whiskers, blue eyes. 4/1/1842: CP 31/3/1842: Tried at the Supreme Court - not guilty. 9/4/1842 The Cornwall Chronicle, Launceston: James Claridge, charged with stealing four bags barley, in the straw; defended by Sydney Stephen. Esq. —acquitted. 31/1/1870: Married Mary Graham, aged 15 at St. John the Baptist, Spring Bay. Children: CLARIDGE JAMES 1871 CLARIDGE MARY ANN 1872 CLARIDGE WILLIAM 1874 CLARIDGE SARAH 1876 CLARIDGE MABEL WINIFRED 1877 CLARIDGE LAVINIA JANE 1882 CLARIDGE HENRY ALLEN 1884 CLARIDGE AMY MADELINE 1886 CLARIDGE GEORGE ALLEN 1888 1897: James Claridge died aged, 94 years, of Senilis at the New Town Charitable Institution, listed as a pauper.
