ESCAPE FROM PRISON. —During the night of Wednesday two prisoners, Charles Clifford, charged with breaking into house of John Bolton, in New Street, and John Brady, with uttering forged notes, effected their escape from the Gaol in this city. Brady, in dropping from the wall, chanced to break one his legs and this accident led to his re-capture. Durham County Advertiser, 29 January 1820. --------------------------------------------------- On Saturday last, the following convicts were forwarded from the gaol here to the hulks, preparatory their removal to New South Wales:—Charles Clifford and John Brady, each to be transported for life ; Wm Stephenson for 14 years ; and John Butler (the dashing traveller and Andrew Kennins, each for seven years.
