DAVID POOLE, Proctor. Sydney Gazette, 22 Sep 1829. ---------------------------------------------------- Death. At his residence, West Maitland, on the 19th July, Mr. Samuel Clift, aged 71 years ; deeply regretted by his family and friends. On 31st ultimo, at her late residence, East Maitland, after a short illness, Ann, relict of the late Samuel Clift, Esq., of West Maitland; aged 65 years. Maitland Mercury, 4 Jan 1868. ---------------------------------------------------- At Weires's Creek, Liverpool Plains, on the 19th October, in the 67th year of his age, Mr. James Duff, brother of Mrs. John Eckford and Mrs. Samuel Clift, of East Maitland, and an old and respected resident of Jerry's Plains for upwards of 40 years, leaving a wife and six children to mourn their loss, and deeply regretted by a numerous circle of relatives and friends. Maitland Mercury, 6 Nov 1866. ----------------------------------------------------- It appears that Samuel's wife Ann was the brother of James Duff, so her maiden name was most likely Duff. This explains the reason why Probate of Peter Duff's will was granted to Samuel Clift.
