John COLLINS (or RYAN) was convicted at Dublin, Ireland on 27 May 1844 for stealing a handkerchief. Previous offence for pick pocketing and robbing a house. 7yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Emily' arriving 30 Oct 1844. Aged 18yrs; single; labourer; 5'3 1/2"; Roman Catholic. Native place: Dublin, Ireland. Mother: Catherine Sister: Esther - in England 2 Brothers - at native place Assigned to work services in VDL. Station: Westbury, Tasmania. 19 Sept 1848: Ticket of Leave granted. 10 Oct 1851: Free Certificate
