Maurice Collins was transported on the Brampton, departing 8th Nov 1822 and arriving 22nd Apr 1823 with 185 passengers.
The 'Brampton' ship was built in 1817 at King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. Originally used by the East India Company and then whaling before being a convict transport ship. Many of the Irish convicts on this ship were convicted under the Insurrection Act, for White Boy offences. 24 April 1823, the Sydney Gazette reported: On Tuesday last arrived from Ireland, with 183 male convicts, the ship Brampton, Captain Moore. She left London the 28th of July last; sailed from the Cove of Cork on the 8th of November; and last from the Cape of Good Hope, the 20th of February, from whence she brings eleven convicts.—Surgeon Superintendent, Dr. Price, R. N. The guard comprises a detachment of the 3d Regt. (Buffs.)

Petition for mitigation of sentence (Fiche 3239; 4/1872 p.27) That your memorialist arrived in this colony per the Brampton, Captain Moore from Ireland in April 1823. That memorialist on his arrival delivered to your Excellency a letter from Sir Benjamin Bloomfield on an assurance from Sir Benjamin that your Excellency in your wisdom would be graciously pleased to grant your memorialist some indulgence in consequence – that memorialist was sent to Bathurst and consigned to George Rankin Esq. & was thereby procluded the Benefit of applying to your Excellency – your Memorialist therefore humbly solicits your Excellency for such Indulgence as Sir Benjamin’s Recommendation and Memorialist’s good conduct since his arrival may deserve- & memorialist will pray.
