On the Warrior, he was listed as prisoner #2809, aged 25 years, married, semi-literate and a type founder. The conviction for assault and robbery was his first. In December 1844 at the High Court of Justiciary, Jane Gordon, Margaret Parker, Thomas Collins and William Owen were convicted - on 12 November 1843 'within a house in the High Street assault a country gentleman' (no further details) to the effusion of blood and rob him of money and articles. Each of the four accused received transportation for 10 years - see Scotsman newspaper 11 December 1844 p 3 on 'High Court of Justiciary'. However, there is no trace of William Owen on Convict Records having been transported. See also McGowan, John (2022) Policing the Metropolis of Scotland, 1833-1861 (Edinburgh City Archives) Volume 1, p 1363.
