National Archives. Criminal Petitions. HO 17/103/16. Date. 1827 Dec. Prisoner name: John Cork. Prisoner age: 19. Court and date of trial: Bristol Gaol Delivery Sessions, October 1827. Crime: Burglary, together with William Stone. Initial sentence: Death commuted to 14 years transportation. Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): Prisoner, undersigned by Harris Abrahams, Jonathan Matthews and William Hewitt, prosecutor and witnesses; Griffiths and Lewis and Robert Johns, the prisoner's former employers; nine persons. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is innocent of the burglary and five witnesses testified to this; he was apprehended in the company of William Stone, also found guilty. Additional Information: Prisoner held in Bristol gaol.
