William was sentenced in London on the 16th February 1826 and transported to New Norfolk, Tasmania, on the ship Earl of St Vincent' in August 1826 for larceny; stealing a coal scuttle and fish kettle. He was acquitted on suspicion of stealing a watch From the date of William trial to the time he left for Tasmania he was helf in an old Hulk of a ship moored on the River Thames near London. On the 30th October 1826 William was in trouble for falling out of the ranks on his way to Church and with rising up in Church and walking out. For this he was sent to work for the Government for two successive Saturdays. William stayed out of trouble  for a few months until 26th March 1827 when he was found stealing wood form the Government Brickfields on the Saturday lastr. He was sentenced to two months in the chain gang. On the 15th May 1827, we find he  neglected his duty on the chain gang and was sentenced to an extra week 12th October 1829 William made improper language; to Mr George on Saturday and was given 25 lashes. 30th November 1830 when he was fined 10/- for riding on the shaft of a cart and had to pay the court costs. 28th March 1831, William was;being out after hours last night and on account of his previous good character and on the recommendation of the engineer , was not punished 17th April 1832, William was suspected of robbery in the house of H. Bilton. He was discharged, but thee being no doubt, though a deficiency  of legal proof, of his guilt
