Penal Establishment, Secretary's Office 8 July 1871 Enquiry has been made respecting the undermentioned individual--Patrick Crofts, per Nautilus to Norfolk Island and per Maitland to Tasmania, who received a Certificate of Freedom in March, 1846. Tasmania Police Gazette, 14th July 1871, p114.




6/3/1839 Limerick Chronicle: John Burke and Patrick Crofts were indicted for administering an unlawful oath to Dorah Piper, on 23rd October last, while searching for firearms, and in another count for stealing a bayonet, the property of John Piper, near Adair. Patrick Crofts was 30 years old when transported to NSW for 'Administering unlawful oaths'. He was a Widower with 1 male and 1 female children. He and John Burke were disembarked at Norfolk lsland - then arrived in VDL per 'Maitland' 3/3/1844. Birth date is given as 1802 (according to his death record) but was listed as being born in 1814. 4/1/1847: Married Maria Jacob/s at Hobart, he was 33 and a Gardener, she was 30, a spinster. Both lived in Warwick Street. No children found. March 1867: Was working in the government gravel quarry in the domain. 31/1/1872: Elector in West Hobart. 2/12/1882: Patrick died at the New Town Charitable Establishment, listed as 80 years old, a labourer, died of Senilis and was buried at the Cornelian Bay Cemetery, paupers section.
