On Sunday evening Mr. Joel Lott, miller, in the employ of Mr. Barker missed a black hen and a clutch of five chickens, as they did not come home to roost; while standing at his own door he heard the hen and chickens in the adjoining yard, kicking up a dust ; he cleared the fence at a bound, and found a woman named Mary Bowman with a bag under her arm containing the lost hen and her brood; he seized upon the bag, when two men who were standing near, named Daniel Kilburn and Gilbert Cox, attempted to rescue them; assistance was (called, and they were all taken into custody. M. J. has lost 30 fowls within six weeks. Sydney Gazette, 20 Dec 1836.
