William changed his name from Drummond to his mother's maiden name Davies when he was charged at Lancashire Quarter sessions on 8 Jul 1833 for stealing lead at the age of 14 years. His occupation was noted as Potters boy a native of Liverpool. He was granted his certificate of freedom No.40/1136 Prisoner No.35/1044 on 22 July 1840 at this time he was a labourer. He ultimately created his own business as a Cabinet Maker in Newtown, Sydney, New South Wales
