William Davis at Port Sorell, per Duchess of Northumberland, F.S., Offence-obtaining money by false and fraudulent pretences, Sentence-12 months, Native place-England, Trade-miner, age 50yrs, 5 feet 7 inches high, resides at Lyndhurst, Launceston and Port Sorell. William DAVIS was convicted at the CCC, London on 14 June 1841 for house breaking and stealing. 10 yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: "bad". Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia per the ship 'Duchess of Northumberland' arriving 18 Jan 1843. Ship surgeon's report: "orderly". Aged 22 yrs; a confectioner; can read & write; Protestant; 5'7 1/4" height; sallow complexion; brown hair. Native of Birth: Kingston Father & Mother at Maidenhead Brothers: Richard & Christopher Sisters: Sarah & Lydia Colony of VDL: 2 and half yrs Probation Period A very extensive record of misconduct and further offences. 21 May 1844: Launceston S.C. A furthert 14 yr extension of sentence. 17 Dec 1852: Absconding and escaping to Victoria . 18 mths hard labour, in chains. To serve 3 yrs at Port Arthur Penal Settlement, Quarry Gang. 18 Aug 1857: Ticket of Leave granted.
