Margaret Dawson was convicted at Glasgow 22 April 1847 for stealing door mats. (She had 5 or 6 previous convictions of theft.) She was given 7 yrs. Transported on the ‘Cadet’, voyage 2, departing 9 Sep 1847, arriving Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) 2 Jan 1848 Hobart. Convict no. 581. She was aged 50 yrs, 5’0", fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, could read and write, single, protestant. Mother: Catherine. Sisters Catherine and Janet. Brother George.
Assignments: 24 Sep 1849 Ross Female Factory, Nursery. 3 mths hard labour. 21 Jan 1850 Cascades Female Factory, Hobart 3 mths hard labour. 18 Oct 1850 Cascades Female Factory 4 mths hard labour.
13 June 1851 Launceston.
2 Sep 1851 married Robert Stempson (free person)
22 Apr 1854 Free by servitude.
2 Oct 1857 Died at Brighton, Tasmania. Aged 60yrs.
