Henry Dobbin was transported on the Waterloo, departing 21st May 1836 and arriving 6th Sep 1836 with 220 passengers.
1829 - Waterloo's first voyage arrived at Sydney Cove 9 July 1829. 180 Male Convicts. 2 Died on voyage. 7 sent to the hospital on landing. Total mustered; 171. Stephen Addison - Commander Michael Goodsire - Surgeon Superintendent [His wife was a passenger] 1842 - The Waterloo voyage of 1842 was wrecked on 28/8/1842. 189 people drowned, these being 143 convicts, 15 men of the 99th Regiment, together with 17 wives and children, the boatswain Mr. Chiverton, the sailmaker, the carpenter and 11 of the crew. Convicts were then received in Cape Town Prison from the wreck of the Waterloo, 2nd September 1842. They then completed their voyage to VDL per “Cape Packet” which arrived on 23/11/1842.

Convict Notes




The Convict Indentures state that Henry Dobbin was 21 years old. He could read and write; religion Roman Catholic; status single and a native of Dublin. He was a porter groom and postilion. Henry was convicted of embezzling coal at Dublin City on 30 December 1835 and sentenced to 7 years. He had no prior convictions. Physical attributes: height 5 feet 1 3/4 inches; complexion ruddy freckled and pock pitted; hair brown and eyes grey. Comment: dark red whiskers and Waterloo ship, 14 May 1836, inside lower right arm. Transport number 40. Prisoner number 36-1845. NSW 1837 General Muster states that Henry Dobbin assigned to i) Hyde Park Barracks in Sydney and ii) Mr Alan Elliott at Wollongong. Received Certificate of Freedom on 2 September 1843 (number 43/1436).
