Court and date of trial: General Quarter Sessions, Portsmouth [Hampshire], 3 May 1821. Crime: Felony. Initial sentence: Seven years transportation. Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): John Downes of Church Path Halfway Houses, Portsea, labourer, the prisoner's father, undersigned by James Skelton, the prosecutor, and 23 inhabitants of Portsmouth and Portsea, testifying to the petitioner's good character. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): The prisoner is the petitioner's only son; they request that he remain on board the York hulk so they may alleviate his sufferings. Additional Information: Prisoner held on board York hulk, Portsmouth Harbour.
