Ireland National Archives. Ireland – Australia Database. Doc No: PC133. Doc Date: 18/5/1799 Andrew Doyle, imprisoned at Newgate, Dublin. Crime description: Ultering forged notes. Convict awaiting trial. Has wife and three children, and residing in Park St., Liberty of Dublin. Second petition dated 4/9/1799. A callico manufacturer and Printer by trade. Dublin- December 4. Andrew Doyle and Robert Fitzgerald stood indicted for having on the 3d June last, forged and feloniously uttered to Joseph Davis, a one guinea note, purporting to be of the Bank of Ireland, with intent to defraud the Governors and Company of said Bank;   also with having blank paper with the water mark of the Bank of Ireland incorporated, contrary to the statute. Fitzgerald was acquitted, but Doyle was found guilty of having in his possession blank paper with the water-mark of the Bank of Ireland therein, contrary to the statute, He was sentenced to be transported for life.  Belfast News-Letter, 8 Dec 1801. Anne-Maree Whitaker mentions Andrew Doyle in her book “Unfinished Revolution” “The loyalist Andrew Doyle, who came out on the Rolla, provides further information on two of his shipmates. Hogan….. Johnson …. Doyle, a Protestant and loyalist, would not have used the political term “Orangeman” to indicate Johnson’s religious affiliation. Presumably Johnson either had a political conversion, or else had infiltrated the Orange Lodge within his regiment in Ireland to spy on them for the rebels. Doyle’s flattering reference to Johnson’s courage is also curious, given his condemnation of the United Irishmen as “demons who, banished from happiness, carry desolation and pestilence into every place they resort”. ... Deaths. Of apoplexy, on the 2nd instant, at his residence, Ulitedinburra Lodge, Portland Head, Andrew Doyle, Esq., aged sixty-seven years, much regretted by his numerous family. Sydney Herald, 8 Sep 1841.
