John DWYER was convicted at Dublin City, Ireland on 16 Oct 1840 for desertion (absent 3 days) and previous desertion for 4 months. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Waverley’ arriving 13 Sept 1841.  Ship surgeon’s report: “Good”.

Single man; aged 20 yrs; trade - shoemaker & had been a soldier in the 74th Regiment for 2 yrs, 6 mths ; 5’3” height; Roman Catholic; literate; fresh complexion; dk brown hair; dk Hazel eyes.
Native place of birth: Tipperary, Ireland.
Mother: Joan (or Jean)
Brothers: Michael, Patrick & Anthony
Sisters: Bridget, Margaret & Catherine

Colony of VDL:
Assigned to work services. 12 mths Probation Period. 1st Station Gang - Bridgewater.
1842: at Longford
1844: at Launceston
1845: at Deloraince & Westbury
14 July 1846: Ticket of Leave granted
16 Oct 1847: Free, by servitude
1847:  noted he was in ill health
