Court Record, Thomas Dykes, status - probation. Trial 10 April 1827, Offence – Receiving 16 sheep value ?16, property of James Maclarenden. Guilty. TUESDAY, APRIL 10. Samuel Hillary, (better known by the name of Sam the butcher), William Longhurst, Thomas Dykes and Charles Jones were placed on their trials for stealing sixteen sheep from Mr. Maclanachan, York Plains. The information contained 20 counts, the Court sat till a late hour, but from the great number of witnesses it was adjourned till Wednesday. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 11. The trial of Hillary and others was resumed, and after a long investigation which lasted till half past ten o'clock at night, the following verdict was delivered.- Samuel Hillary, not guilty, William Longhurst - guilty of stealing 10 sheep. Thomas Dykes and Charles Jones-guilty of receiving the said sheep, Hobart Town Gazette, 14 Apr 1827. He was not sentenced until later. Supreme Court. On Saturday last, His Honor the Chief Justice Pedder took his seat on the Bench to give judgment on the various prisoners then in Gaol, on whom sentence had not been passed-the present being a General Gaol Delivery, the long Session having at last terminated. ……. Transportation for 14 Years.-John Wilson, Thomas Dykes, Charles Jones, and Benjamin Gibbs. Both signed their names.

The same prisoners were again indicted for disposing of and putting away, forged Bank of England notes, they well knowing them to have been forged and counterfeited . MR. REYNOLDS on the part of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England declined offering any evidence. NOT GUILTY . Second Middlesex Jury, before Mr. Common Sergeant.
