29/2/1840 Reading Mercury Berkshire, England: THURSDAY, Feb. 27th HENRY GREENAWAY, alias PUSEY, 23, and JOHN EBSWORTH alias GROVES, 24, charged with robbing Benjamin Finch on the Queen's highway of a watch and chain, and sundry Wallingford notes, his property. Guilty.__Each Fifteen years' transportation. Henry Greenaway arrived NSW per Maitland 1840. John Ebsworth was 24 years old on arrival : Native Place: Berkshire. John was illiterate, protestant, single, 5'5" tall, fair ruddy and freckled complexion, brown hair and eyes, scar on centee of forehead, anchor inside lower right arm, small cross and another blue mark inside lower left arm, three scars inside left wrist, two scars on back of middle finger of left hand. Worked as a carrier. 2/1/1889 The Braidwood ispatch and Mining Journal, NSW: Funeral. THE friends of the late JOHN EBSWORTH are respectfully invited to attend his FUNERAL, to move from his late residence, Shoalhaven River, at 12 (noon) aud arriving in Braidwood at 1 p.m., TO-MORROW (Thursday). John Ebsworth could not read or write. In 1844 he married Susannah Fitzpatrick at the Church of England, Araluen, Braidswood. 30/3/1854: Sent to trial at Goulburn for obtaining money by false pretences. 28/6/1854: Sentenced to 2 years goal at Parramatta goal and to be kept to hard labour for selling and disposing of gold mixed with brass filling with intent to defraud Charles Foster. 1889: Died at Braidwood. His wife Susannah died in 1900 also at Braidwood.
