Note: over the years her husband's surname as been "corrupted" to Jukes or Dukes. 20 July 1872: newspaper article for Jane JUKES who went to court charging her neighbour with assault. 6 Feb 1882: admission to General Hospital, Hobart. Under name Jane DUKES. Death record on 11th Feb 1882, cause - heart. Ship to Colony - "Rajah". Place of birth: London. Aged 60yrs, 42 yrs in Colony. Address - Cascades Rd. Hobart. Labourer's wife. (ref. HSD 145/1/1 Feb 1882)

Jane EDWARDS was convicted at the CCC, London on 19 Oct 1840 for stealing a pocket book from the person. Two previous convictions. 10yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Rajah' arriving 1841. Note: The women onboard the ship 'Rajah' made a quilt, known as the Rajah Quilt, which was presented to Lady Franklin using materials provided by the British Ladies Society. Single woman; quiet; aged 19yrs; housemaid; single. Native place of birth: Fetler (or Fetter) Lane, Holborn, England. Work services in the Colony. 1841: assigned to a Mr. Patterson, Liverpool St. Hobart. 1844: assigned to J. Rowe, Hobart. 2 Dec 1844: Ticket of Leave granted. Nov 1849: Out after hours and representing herself to be free. 2 mths hard labour. Female Factory, Cascades, Hobart. 26 Feb 1850: Marriage Permission - Benjamin JEWKES (free, by servitude, transported per 'Lord Lyndoch' 1836) to Jane EDWARDS (transported per 'Rajah'). Approved. 27 March 1850: Marriage - at Hobart. Benjamin JEWKES to Jane EDWARDS. (ref. 37/1/9 no. 195) 22 Oct 1850: Free Certificate issued.
