19/7/1839 Chelmsford Chronicle Essex, England: ESSEX SUMMER ASSIZE THE WEATHERSFIELD BURGLARY.— Joseph Morrell, 32, Samuel Ely, 22, and John Sewell, 19 weavers, were convicted of breaking into the house of Elizabeth Firmin, at Weathersfield.— The Jury returned a verdict of guilty. Transported for life. Samuel Ely was 23 years old on arrival ; native place: Essex. Occupation: 'Soap manufacturer'/ or Weaver (as above). Samuel was literate, protestant, single, 5'5½" tall, ruddy and freckled complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, eyebrows meeting, seven small moles on right arm, and six on the left arm, scar back of left hand near the wrist, two scars on forefinger of same. 21/7/1841: Convict Death Register - Samuel "HELEY" died, aged 23, at the Sydney Hospital.
