Born in Derbyshire. Married Abigail Pemberton in 1803 in Glossop. In 1812 he was convicted (along with others) of breaking into Arden Corn Mill in Bredbury, damaging machinery and stealing £200 worth of flour which they distributed to local people. Thomas was fined one shilling and transported for 7 years. By 1828 he was running his own hatter's business in George Street, Sydney. He is buried in Brickfield Cemetery, Sydney.
